Roz Me'ammar with Cream… a Story That Began at Hagouga

Roz me'ammar is an authentic Egyptian dish, but the slab of cream on top is another story. Hagouga was the first to serve the idea this way in restaurants, and afterwards it appeared in many other places.

Clay pot of roz me'ammar with a golden-brown top and a white slab of country cream melting over the hot rice.

The roz me'ammar we have known for ages, with Hagouga's touch

Roz me'ammar is one of the dishes we grew up on in Egyptian homes. Rice, milk, cream and country ghee go into a clay pot and stay in the oven until they are done and take on their golden top.

At Hagouga we wanted to add our own touch to this authentic dish. A big slab of country cream is placed on top while it is hot, and it starts to melt over the roz me'ammar.

The idea started with us and then spread to many restaurants. We are proud of that: roz me'ammar with cream entered restaurants through us and became so loved.

From the village oven to your table

We serve it in the clay pot itself, hot and golden on top, with the slab of country cream that has become its signature.

Every spoonful tastes of milk, cream and country ghee, the same home cooking we miss.

You will find it in the “Village Oven” section of the menu, among dishes with deep roots, like roqaq.
