Village Roqaq… and New Stories That Began at Hagouga
Roqaq is an authentic Egyptian dish with an honoured place on the table. But at Hagouga we did not stop at the traditional method. We were the first to serve roqaq with cream, and the first to make a roqaq tray stuffed with boneless duck, in restaurants.

The roqaq we grew up on
Roqaq is one of the village-oven dishes we all love: thin layers of dough with a filling between them, baked until done and golden on top. An authentic Egyptian dish, all skill and heart.
Three dishes… two of them Hagouga creations
We have three choices in the “Village Oven” section: Roqaq with Cream & Butter, the Roqaq Tray, and the Hagouga Roqaq Tray.
Roqaq with Cream & Butter: minced meat, clotted cream and butter, with a scoop of cream melting into the melted butter on top. We were the first to serve this idea in restaurants, and then it spread to many places. It remains one of the dishes we are proud to say began at Hagouga.
The traditional Roqaq Tray, with layers of pastry and minced meat and a golden top from the oven.
As for the Hagouga Roqaq Tray, that is another creation we cherish. We were the first to serve roqaq stuffed with boneless duck, bringing two of the most beloved Egyptian dishes together in one tray.
If you love village-oven food, do not miss the roz me'ammar with cream and country ghee, our best-known tagine.
